European Clubs Unite to Train the Next Generation of Academy Leaders
23 July 2026
The European Football Clubs association has launched a new Academy Management Programme designed to professionalise the people who run youth football β because better-led academies produce better players.
Behind every great young footballer there is a great academy. And behind every great academy there is a team of coaches, directors, and managers who know exactly how to create an environment where talent can thrive. That is the idea driving the European Football Clubs (EFC) 2026 Academy Management Programme, which brings together academy directors from clubs across Europe to sharpen their leadership skills and share what works.
The programme focuses on strategy, leadership, innovation, and creating the right culture within youth setups. Participants are either already leading academies or are professionals working towards those top roles. The goal is to raise standards across European football at the youth level β so that more clubs can do what the best academies already do: identify young talent early, develop it properly, and give players the best possible chance of reaching the top.
This matters for young players because the quality of your academy environment has a direct impact on how quickly you develop. When the adults running your club are trained in the latest methods, that knowledge filters down to every training session, every match-day decision, and every conversation you have with a coach.
Football is investing more than ever in the science of developing young players. Programmes like this one are a sign that the people in charge are taking that responsibility seriously β and that is good news for every talented young footballer in Europe today.
